Hawaii and Hong Kong

After being an airline pilot for 6 1/2 years, my dad finally got to come on a trip with me.  Unfortunately, it didn't go as originally planned.

I got alerted to go on a freight trip that started and ended in Los Angeles with layovers in Honolulu, Hong Kong, and Anchorage.  I immediately thought I should see if I can take a guest with me on the trip, since it starts and stops in the same place.  We worked out all the details and my dad came along.  I told him ahead of time that working for World Airways can be an adventure and schedules sometimes change.  He was prepared for that.

We left early in the morning to drive to LAX.  Since it was foggy in the central valley, we left ourselves plenty of time.  That worked out well and we got to LAX in time to have a leisurely breakfast.  We made our way to the airplane and were on our way to Hawaii.  As it turns out, that was the only leg my dad would get to fly with us.  The other First Officer, Rob, also brought a guest with him, his wife Sylvia.  Scott was the Captain and he flew the leg to Honolulu.

We went to the Shore Bird that evening and called it a night.  The next day we went out for a walk to Diamond Head.  We just walked around the base of it on Diamond Head Road and enjoyed the view of the ocean along the way.  I began to investigate a potentail schedule change and, to make a long story short, discovered that all of the trip after Hong Kong had been cancelled.  As a result, we decided to have my dad go home from Hawaii instead of continuing to Hong Kong and having to pay much more for the ticket home.

Rob, on the other hand, kept Sylvia with him and we pressed on to Hong Kong.  Because of having the rest of the trip cancelled, we didn't get as much time there as we were supposed to.  Basically we had the rest of the day after we got there, which was early in the morning.  We napped and headed out for some Chinese lunch followed by a ride up to Victoria Peak.  The ride and the view at the top were both fantastic.  It was windy up there and a bit chilly but it was well worth the time to go see the city from above.  To get back, we took the cable trolly back down the hill.  It goes at quite the angle too!  By the time all that was done, it was time for dinner and bed.  Alas, that wound up being the end of the trip as I commercialled home the next morning.  Still, it was a fun time.
