I don't recall exactly how long it took us to reach the summit but I
think between 2 and 3 hours. When we got there, there were a few
other people there enjoying the view. They left before we did so
we had a few minutes to ourselves at the summit. The view was
particularly enjoyabe as we could not only see the San Joaquin Valley,
but also Edison Lake and the surrounding area where I've done several
other backpacking trips.
On the hike down, we took a different route which took us by Campfire
Lake. We saw some people fishing there, and they were actually
cathcing fish (that was the only time the whole trip we had seen a fish
out of the water ;) Most of the descent was cross country until
we got back to George Lake. Then we took the trail back to Upper
Twin.
That evening, I decided to experiment with some low-light
photography. The moon came up while it was still light which made
for a couple of nice shots. Then I got some dusk reflections off
the lake and a nice shot of the stars and the moon. We finished
off the night with a campfire and I finished off the campfire with a
picture.
The next morning we got up and hiked out. Henry and I left first,
reaching the car just an hour and 7 minutes after leaving the
lake. More amazing was that I didn't injure my knees doing
it. We had lunch in Shaver again and then Henry dropped me off
here at home again.
Looking back, I wish I had taken a few minutes to explore the
caves. We walked by the entrance but didn't go in. 11 years
ago, I was at Upper Twin with Edi. We went inside the caves and
that is where I proposed to her. Maybe someday I can take her
back to that place...
