Hi everyone!!
It is my hope that this email finds you all well. Edison, Roo
and I are
doing great. The only noticable difference between my pregnancy
with
Edison and with Roo2 is that I am feeling more tired, but that was
to be
expected.
We all went for our first Roo2 appt. with Dr. Peters this morning
which was fun! We talked for a while and got caught up.
He has a
2 week old grandson, Seth, who was born to his daughter and son-
in-law this month. His daughter is going to be joining his practice
in
September so I will get to meet and be seen by her later in my pregnancy.
The appt. went well. My PB was 130/80 and here are my weight
stats for this pregnancy:
PPW (pre-pregnancy weight)*
1st visit (6 weeks, 4 days) PPW
* My PPW was the same as when I was pregnant with Edison.
This will make for an easy comparison between the two
pregnancies.
Dr. Peters wrote up an order for a simplified blood screen. He
said that
he wouldn't even do the minimal testing he is ordering, but I had a
Rubella vaccination after Edison was born and he wants to make sure
I'm
immune now.
Other than that, he did a pelvic exam and said that I feel about 6
weeks along. I asked him how much walking is too much.
Varrin
and I had considered running/walking a marathon in the fall (before
I got
pregnant) and Dr. Peters said that no more than 5 miles would be
recommended. And that is only if I begin my walking routine that
I had
with Edison which was 2 miles, 5 times per week and if I even feel
up to
it by then (about 25 weeks along). I have been walking irregularly
since
finding out that I am pregnant again. I need to get back into
the
routine.
My next appt. is July 11th, after we return from our vacation in
Michigan. I'm sure I will get to hear Roo's heartbeat at that
visit.
And a note on Edison, he is rolling over from back to front now.
He just
started today and has done it 4 times this hour. It's kind of
funny
because once he gets to his tummy, he will play for a few minutes and
begin to cry. Now he just has to learn to go from tummy to back
:-)
Well that's it for now. Hope you are all having a super day!
July 10, 2001
Hi girls,
First let me tell you that our website has gotten much more
extensive. I am keeping my pregnancy journal (these messages
sent to you) on the website now as well as Edison & Roo2 having
their own websites. There are also a million and a half pictures
up on
the site of Edison. Check it all out at it's *temporary* address:
sugargroup.no-ip.com
When the website changes back to "sugargroup.net" I'll let you
know.
My appt. with Dr. Peters went well today. It was short and sweet
but alas I got to hear Roo2's heartbeat which is what I longed for
:-)
It's beating loud and strong at 12-1/2 weeks! Yipee!
I have my
next appt. scheduled for August 9th and I can't wait to hear it
again! I tried to tape record it so we could put it up on the
website
too, but I couldn't find a working tape recorder at the house.
I had some guests come with me to my appt. today. I watched
Rich and Theresa Burt's two children, Lauren & Kyle, last night
and
this morning and they got to go with me. They also got to hear
the
heartbeat which seemed "neat" to them. Kyle described it as
sounding like a freight train. Lauren was more interested in
caring for
Edison while Dr. Peters was checking me out.
Everything looks good so far, according to Dr. Peters. He said
my
blood test results *did* indeed come back with immunity to Rubella
which is good. HIV negative, all other cultures negative, thyroid
good, urinalisys fine.
My weight (similar to my pregnancy with Edison):
PPW (pre-pregnancy weight)*
1st visit (6 weeks, 4 days) PPW
2nd visit (12 weeks, 5 days) PPW - 5-1/2
Well Edison is doing great. We play a game where I pat my
tummy and tell him that I have a baby in there and then he'll pat my
tummy. It's adorable. He just loves imitating me.
Well all is well otherwise. Our trip to Michigan was super
enjoyable (pics posted on the site). Varrin is enjoying his flying
at
World. He's in Cancun, Mexico as we speak, having just spent
the last two
weeks in Rome and Venice. The bum! :-) He has some pics
and diaries of
his travel up on the website. Take a look!

Hi girls,
Sorry I didn't send an update last month. I got lazy and there
was
no news to report. My last month check-up went well, BP was
fine, weight gain was small but encouraging and Roo2's heartbeat
was loud and clear. Dr. Peters says everything seems to be going
along fine. I feel great!
As for today's ultrasound appt... Roo looks healthy on film.
Ultrasound tech said that he/she was a good looking baby. No
news on the "gender front", same as with Edison. Shy little
booger! Leg drawn up and foot covering the all important parts.
Darn. Last year I had to wait 4 weeks but this time I checked
and
there is no reason for me to wait, other than I have to pay for this
one
out-of-pocket. I'm willing and so I made another appt. for next
Monday,
9/10. Wish us luck!
Well that was all we did today. I'll write again on Monday and
let
you know what we find out.
Love to you all!

Hi all,
Well Roo was MUCH more cooperative at this ultrasound appt.
than last week. See the attached pictures of our cute little
bundle... let me know if you can't access the pictures! The gender
is revealed within!
Love to you all!

NOTE: PHOTOS REVEALED THAT ROO2 IS A
GIRL!!

Hi girls,
I know it's been a while and I'm sorry for not
updating you all
sooner. Some of you have asked if I have
your email correct and I
believe I do, I just haven't sent an update it
a while. It was *much*
easier when I didn't have a little one to chase
after.
Just incase I haven't told you all, the website
is up and running
again. There are many new pictures of Edison
at his site and his
most recent accomplishments. At our sites
(Varrin's World & Edi's
World) there are new pictures including the Billy
Graham Crusade.
Enjoy at:
sugargroup.net
Well I go to the doctor next Tuesday and hope
to get you and
update out when I return home. I just thought
there is so much to
tell you that I better write today, while I have
the time (Edison's
obviously napping :-)
Last you knew, Roo revealed herself to be a "Miss
Roo". She is
growing well inside me and is kicking and moving
a lot. It's fun!
My weight gain has been slow again as it was
with Edison. See
below:
THIS INFO IS UPDATED DUE TO MISCALCULATIONS WITH
DATING:
PPW (pre-pregnancy weight)
1st visit (6 weeks) PPW
2nd visit (12 weeks) PPW - 5-1/2
3rd visit (16 weeks, 2 days) PPW - 4
4th visit (20 weeks) ULTRASOUND ONLY
5th visit (20 weeks, 6 days) ULTRASOUND ONLY
6th visit (24 weeks) PPW - 2
On my 6th visit (earlier this month) I was told
to go take the routine one
hour glucose test and I did that on the 9th.
Apparently the results came
back indicating a possible problem with gestational
diabetes (this
happened with my last pregnancy too). So,
on the 18th I went for the
lovely 3 hour variety glucose test and I'm waiting
on the results of that.
In the meantime, I have had a bout with the stomach
flu and now a
sinus infection both of which I am not taking
anything for. I got a new
PCP and they said that if I can handle it without
meds, that would be
better. I actually prefer that approach
unless I feel like I'm going to
die. So far I am doing great with "handling"
it and I appear to be
getting better. I'm down to just sneezing
and a runny nose. At least the
sore throat has gone away... boy, I hate a sore
throat!
But what else could they discover at that appt.?
A thrush infection in my
mouth. Some sort of fungal infection that
is common in pregnancy. It's
not too bad and I am just about over it, having
been given a "swish and
swollow" mouth rinse. It wasn't too bad
and the infection has pretty much
gone away.
So, a lot of new experiences with Miss Roo that
I didn't have with
Edison but none that are either out of the ordinary
or unbearable. I
still feel like a million bucks and am looking
forward to Edison's first
holiday season.
I think that's all for now. Hope you are
doing well. Don't forget to
check out the website.
Love,
XOXO Edi(miss roo)
December 1, 2001
Hi girls,
Sorry I have had to combine these two updates into one email.
I
am behind *again*. There's not that much to tell which is a good
sign.
On my appt. 10/13 I had lost 1/2 lb. and on 10/27 there was no
change. See the following stats
PPW (pre-pregnancy weight)
1st visit (6 weeks) PPW
2nd visit (12 weeks) PPW - 5-1/2
3rd visit (16 weeks, 2 days) PPW - 4
4th visit (20 weeks) ULTRASOUND ONLY
5th visit (20 weeks, 6 days) ULTRASOUND ONLY
6th visit (24 weeks) PPW - 2
7th visit (28 weeks) PPW + 1-1/2
8th visit (30 weeks) PPW + 1
9th visit (32 weeks) PPW + 1
On the 13th I saw Dr. Peters-Kroeker (Dr. Peter's daughter that
joined his practice in Sept.). She was very nice and has her
dad's
personality... kind of quiet but helpful and sweet. I talked
to her about
my thrush infection that came back about a week after seeming to be
gone.
She suggested that I see my PCP again, as they were the ones who started
treating it to begin with. She just asked that I keep them informed
so
they can be on top of it too if need be. Well working with this
new PCP's
office (I've actually been seeing the nurse practitioner, Jim regarding
this issue) has been a nightmare. He never calls me back, calls
in
prescriptions without telling me and without instructions, calls in
prescriptions that I'm already currently taking that I've left a message
aren't working... it took 3 days to get him to call me back and then
it
was the nurse telling me that I'll have to come in for a culture.
Well by
that time, Varrin was gone on a trip and going to the doctor with Edison
is a job :-). But I did and they did *not* take a culture but
gave me a
round of antibiotics and told me to taken them (triox - essentially
amoxicillan) for 7 days. Now *that* I could have gotten over
the phone.
Oh well. I called Dr. Peters to make sure that it was (1) ok
to take
being pregnant and (2) the right meds for the job. He said yes,
ok to
take but no, not a treatment for Thrush. So I called Jim back
at the PCP.
He *finally* talked to me on the phone and apologized that he
might not
have been clear with me. He's not thinking it's thrush any longer,
he's
treating it as a "general infection of the mouth" and the antibiotics
should work for that. That's good to know information that I
wish I'd
known when I called Dr. Peters. Anyway, I took the antibiotics
for 7
days... no change.
That brings me to my 10/27 appt. I saw Dr. Peters for this appt.
and all is well with Miss Roo. I talked to him about the possibility
of
inducing again (seeing as I had a very short labor with Edison).
He said
if I get to 2-3 cm and am at least 38 weeks, he'll schedule another
induction. Said I'm a good candidate for that.
Well I told him my woes with the PCP's office and he decided to
take 2 cultures. He sent one away to the lab... I should have
the
results on Monday. The other, he and Dr. Kroeker took a look
at
and thought they might have seen traces of yeast. So they gave
me one pill (Dyflucan) that lasts 3 days in the system which should
do the trick if it's thrush. By then, they should have the lab
results
back. Well today is day 4 and I've seen no change. It's
not bothersome
to me and doesn't hurt at all it just looks crazy on my tongue.
I've been
assured by both Dr. Kroeker & Dr. Peters that it's not harmful
to Miss
Roo. So, we'll see what the lab says about the culture.
Whew... now how's that for a story. Sorry to have bored you all
with that, but I wanted to have it all written for my online journal
and I
also thought you might be interested. If anyone wants to know
the name of
my PCP's office so you can avoid them in the future, let me know.
Otherwise, I'll refrain from saying :-)
Well my BP and Miss Roo's heartbeat was fine this appt. as well.
All is going very smoothly although getting comfortable in bed is
very hard these days. I may have to resort to sleeping on the
recliner in the living room :-)
I'm feeling great otherwise. Edison is all shopped for Christmas.
Now all we have to do is get his picture with Santa and a pic at JC
Penny's and we'll be all done. We actually did good, keeping
the
toys down to a small few but precious things. Christmas
decorating with Edison was fun, check out the pics at the website.
Well that's all for now. Love to you all!

December 10, 2001
Hi all,
Forgot to update you guys last week when I went to see Dr.
Peters. There is nothing out of the ordinary to report.
I have my
BetaStrep test Thursday with Dr. Newell (one of the docs on call for
Dr.
Peters) and maybe I can talk her into giving me an internal exam.
I have
been having a lot of painless contractions the past couple of weeks
and I
would like to see if there is any chance (slim as it may be) that I
may be
making some progress this early on. When I was examined at 36
weeks with
Edison, I was already dilated 3cm, so I'd just be curious to see how
things are going this time around.
Well I'm moving in the right direction weight wise and Miss Roo's
heartbeat was loud and clear. BP was fine and now it's just the
hurry up and wait game. My weight stats are as follows:
PPW (pre-pregnancy weight)
1st visit (6 weeks) PPW
2nd visit (12 weeks) PPW - 5-1/2
3rd visit (16 weeks, 2 days) PPW - 4
4th visit (20 weeks) ULTRASOUND ONLY
5th visit (20 weeks, 6 days) ULTRASOUND ONLY
6th visit (24 weeks) PPW - 2
7th visit (28 weeks) PPW + 1-1/2
8th visit (30 weeks) PPW + 1
9th visit (32 weeks) PPW + 1
10th visit (33 weeks) PPW + 3
Looking good... feeling ok. I'm having a lot of lower extremedy
pain
(mostly my hips and several nerves in my upper legs are giving me
trouble). I have trouble sleeping at night because of the need
to roll
over periodically, but the pain and time associated with making the
"roll"
is both hilarious and not funny at all at the same time. Sometimes
I wake
up and I am on my back, which means I made it 1/2 way to my goal of
rolling over. Then I kind of giggle to myself and roll the rest
of the
way over.
Other than that, I am feeling super! I am finishing up Christmas
gifts and getting them mailed off. We're working hard on campaign
stuff, which has really begun to take shape and be a lot of fun!
Edison is growing like crazy. He's growing right out of his clothes.
:-)
He is about to get 2 more teeth and is walking and talking up
a storm.
He still only takes a few independent steps but his walking performance
improves each day. Today it was 5 independent steps. He
also took a walk
from the couch to the coffee table a few times and enjoyed the praise
we
gave him. Although, that all ended when he got excited on his
last pass
and fell forward into the table, really bumping his head. Poor
guy :-(
He wanted mommy to hold him and then he felt the need to go the bed
after
that. It was getting close to bedtime anyway and he was beginning
to get
clumsy. My cute little bruiser!
Well I'm off to bed myself... thank God that Varrin is getting up with
Edison tomorrow morning! A sleep-in day! Yipee!

December 13, 2001
Hi girls,
Well this week has been exciting. I woke up on Monday with
some sort of flu/food poisoning which included *all* the typical
symptoms (vomiting, craming & "the other"). Then the
contractions begain. I have been having strong braxtons all week
and today at my doctor appt. I thought I'd have them check to see
if there was any activity. I mainly wanted to hear them say,
"Nope, the
cervix is all closed up!" Instead I heard, "Oh, you're 3cm dialated...
bed rest for you." I'm still more than 5 weeks away from my due
date.
I was also assured that if miss roo is born now, she will be fine but
that
means no singing for Candlelight (which started tonight and run 9 shows
over the next 4 days). That was a hard pill to swallow, but all
the best
for miss roo. They want her to cook in there another 2 weeks
at least (if
possible).
So, that is the big news. In other news... my weight was the same:
PPW (pre-pregnancy weight)
1st visit (6 weeks) PPW
2nd visit (12 weeks) PPW - 5-1/2
3rd visit (16 weeks, 2 days) PPW - 4
4th visit (20 weeks) ULTRASOUND ONLY
5th visit (20 weeks, 6 days) ULTRASOUND ONLY
6th visit (24 weeks) PPW - 2
7th visit (28 weeks) PPW + 1-1/2
8th visit (30 weeks) PPW + 1
9th visit (32 weeks) PPW + 1
10th visit (33 weeks) PPW + 3
11th visit (34 weeks, 2 days) PPW + 3
My BP was fine and no sign of swelling in the legs. Miss Roo is
head-down (a good position for her to be in) and her heartbeat was
great to hear! They did the BetaStrep today, at my urging,
considering we'd like to know the results of that before I go into
labor. Miss Roo is doing well, and I'm doing well, except
scrambling to get everything done.
Note: I was 3cm for the 3 weeks leading up to my induction with
Edison, so it could be a while... and it could also be tonight.
We
just don't know. Varrin has told work that he'll be staying home
now and that is a good feeling. Now, if we can just make it to
the
darn hospital on time :-)
That's it for now. I have another appt. on Thursday. Keep
us in
your prayers and I'll promise to be getting extra rest and relaxation
starting now :-)
XOXO Edi(miss roo)
December 20, 2001
Hi girls,
Well I have news. I went to Dr. Peter's office today and saw
another one of his "on call" doctors, Dr. Willis-Buckley. She
was
very nice and deduced from my 2nd vaginal exam that I am now
4cm and 80% effaced. This caused her to call to Clovis
Community Hospital and tell them I was coming in for an hours
worth of observation. The observation period was to check my
contraction pattern and see if my cervix made any change in that
hour.
I had a few sizeable contractions (not painful but powerful) and a
number of other smaller ones within the hour and no change... still
4cm and 80%. Miss Roo is also at 0 (zero) station which means
she is resting right at the cervical opening. In a very good
position.
They said that our baby looks great!
So they sent me home. I have had a number of contractions since
leaving there, but most likely due to the very agressive vaginal
exam given by the nurse on duty. I thought I might just jump
off
the bed. Ouch! I'm going to head to bed early and see how
I feel
throughout the night.
We want Miss Roo to continue to cook a little longer but she will
be healthy if born now (at 35.2 weeks).
Other than that, my BP was fine, no swelling but I lost a pound.
I
have read that is a sign of delivery being near (small weight loss).
I
can't say I wasn't a little disappointed. I'd love to have that
precious
little one in my arms for Christmas.
Weight stats:
PPW (pre-pregnancy weight)
1st visit (6 weeks) PPW
2nd visit (12 weeks) PPW - 5-1/2
3rd visit (16 weeks, 2 days) PPW - 4
4th visit (20 weeks) ULTRASOUND ONLY
5th visit (20 weeks, 6 days) ULTRASOUND ONLY
6th visit (24 weeks) PPW - 2
7th visit (28 weeks) PPW + 1-1/2
8th visit (30 weeks) PPW + 1
9th visit (32 weeks) PPW + 1
10th visit (33 weeks) PPW + 3
11th visit (34 weeks, 2 days) PPW + 3
12th visit (35 weeks, 2 days) PPW + 2
Hope you're all well. I'll keep you posted.
XOXO Edi(miss roo)
